Windscreen Repair FAQs

1

How much does windscreen repair cost in NZ?

Chip repairs typically cost $50-$100. Crack repairs range from $80-$150 depending on length. Full windscreen replacement costs $250-$800 depending on vehicle type. Many insurance policies cover windscreen damage with no excess or a small excess.

2

Can a cracked windscreen be repaired or does it need replacing?

Small chips (under 40mm) and cracks (under 150mm) can often be repaired if they're not in the driver's line of sight. Longer cracks, damage at the edges, or multiple cracks usually require replacement. We'll assess and advise on the best option.

3

Is windscreen repair covered by insurance?

Most comprehensive car insurance policies cover windscreen repair and replacement. Many have no excess for repairs and a reduced excess for replacement. Check your policy or we can help you process the claim.

4

How long does windscreen repair take?

A chip repair takes 20-30 minutes. Crack repair takes 30-60 minutes. Full windscreen replacement takes 1-2 hours, plus the adhesive needs 1 hour to cure before driving (or 24 hours for full strength).

5

Can I drive immediately after windscreen replacement?

You should wait at least 1 hour before driving to allow the adhesive to set. For full strength bonding, wait 24 hours before washing the car or driving at high speeds. Avoid slamming doors in the first hour.

6

Will a repaired chip be invisible?

Repairs significantly improve the appearance but may leave a small mark visible up close. The main purpose is to restore structural integrity and prevent the chip from spreading into a crack. Most repairs are barely noticeable from the driver's seat.

7

Do you offer mobile windscreen repair?

Yes! Our windscreen specialists offer mobile repair and replacement services. They come to your home or workplace with all necessary equipment. Perfect for busy schedules.

8

What causes windscreen cracks to spread?

Temperature changes (hot sun, cold mornings), vibration from driving on rough roads, and stress from flexing can cause chips to spread into cracks. That's why it's important to repair chips quickly before they grow.
